Detail: Animagi of Harry Potter

Another older project. I did this one at home, so naturally the quality is lesser then that when I'm with my art teacher, because she helps me and gives me great advice. Anyway, so this is a deatil image from a peice I did featuring the four main animagi from Harry Potter (Mooney, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs).

I'm not very pleased with the outcome of this project, but I thought I should upload it anyway.

Leopard Resting

Here's another painting that was done some time ago. I referenced Robert Bateman's work to paint the leopard, but I put him in a different position along with a new background. This was the first painting with which I used pre-made acrylic colours instead of the basic five (yellow, red, blue, black and white). The rocks were painted using a palet knife, so they have a stoney texture. I also love this painting because I like drawing and painting animals, and because I like the way the sky turned out, especially the clouds.

The Red Vinyard

It's been a long time since I've uploaded new pictures. This blog is a sort of 'diary' of my progress, but I've neglected it for over a year. Over the time of my neglection to this blog, I've completed a number of art projects that I worked on both at home and at my art teacher's studio. This was done a few years ago, but it is one of my favorite peices I've done so far. I love it for its vibrant colours and texture.
It is a copy of Vangoh's "Red Vinyard". You can compare this to an image of the original on google if you want. it was the first time I used a palet knife for a project, and it is now one of my favorite painting styles.

I was still using only the five base colours for my paintings at this ponit (yellow, red, blue, white and black) so the colours varry in vibrancy from the original, but for that I love it all the more :)

The Girls

Again, back to my sleepless obsesion over Oz books and characters.

After the first books was published, Baum swiched to a new illusrtator for his series, John R. Neil.

I decided to try his cartoonish stylings, drawing the main female charcters in the series that he illustrated: Ozma, Dorothy, Betsy and Trot. (Wierd names, I know...)

Not the greatest impression, but there was a dinner being held downstairs and my shy attitude compelled me to doodle away than actualuy socializing with guests.

My favorite in this picture is the one with the white hat (Betsy or Trot is her name?, can't remember) though others prefer Ozma and Dorothy (flower head and blondie).

Just coloured pencils and a good eraser.

Aslan

I finally put my sketch pad to use and doodled this lion up. I love shading with dark pencils, its so much more fun than painting on canvases :)
It's sopose to be Aslan from the Narnia series by C. S. Lewis.
I showed it to my father and he took it as the Disney matriarche in that annoying Lion King movie.
I was deeply offended because I absolutly (and unexplainably) despise that movie with a burning pashion.
So just for more clarification: THIS IS NOT A DISNEY VILLAIN.
So of coarse I had to label the face write away with a big 'ASLAN' on the front.
Okay, this hair ball seems unfinsihed but honestly, I'm not exactly sure how to draw lion manes, copying the face was hard enough :(
Ah well, he can just stay mane-less for all I care.
Done at home, in my sketch pad (which I never use, to the tolerance of my mother), one holwing stormy, winter evening.

Kathryn-Study

My sister was brooding me to paint a portrait of her (even though I've already done so)
So I got to work to do a draft, and this popped out.
It's not exactly on the dot to her characteristics, and I kind of ruined it by painting it...
After this, I began the canvas drawing. But I got so frustrated I dropped the project entirely.
Ah well, she looks kind of hunched but that's only because of the photograph I was using of her.
I think the jaguar in her lap looks somewhat comical, with its tongue stiking out in a yawn :)
She reminds me or Princess Laya from the Star Wars saga, due to those flowers stiking out the sides of her head.
I think she's still exprecting a portrait, so I may just be mean and give her this ugly paper one *laughs maniacly*

Burlington House Cartoon

Okay, so my art teacher wanted me to do a 'classical' peice.

This shaded drawing is of the virgin Mary (and Saint Ann's Hair)

It's a crop from Leonardo da Vinci's Burlington House Cartoon.

It took me the longest time and people started to comment when they came to pick up their kids 'oh, are you STILL drawing that?'

It looks better un-photographed.

Anyway, I enjoyed doing this face. It's actually more recent than other peices I've just uploaded. I finished it early this year.

I hope my skills are imoroving :)
