Airbender Fan Art: 3

If you look closely, Zuko's body is now in proportion, and I've finsihed the raw drawing for his face (I'm quite happy with it now). Also, you may have noticed Katara's face has changed. I tried to re-draw it smaller but now she looks unlike herself. I'm going to try it again, but in a different pose to make it easier for myself.
Hopefully it will all come together in th end :)

Airbender Fan Art: 2

Zuko's face has been reworked a bit, but his head is still too large for his body, so is Katara's.

Airbender Fan Art: 1

Here's a new project I've started. I've decided to take a picture every time I work on it, so you can see the progress. This is the first image.
The picture will be concerned with the anime show "Avatar: The Last Airbender". Right now I've got Zuko and Katara, and I'll draw in the others later. Right now I'm focusing on the subjects to the right.
Zuko looks unlike himself, and Katar's head is larger than it should be. Then again, I just started, and there's still much work to be done.
Sorry if the resolution is bad, it's just done in light pencil so far.

Simba and the Sky

More Disney art. This time, Simba from "The Lion King" is the subject. I spent FOREVER slaving over this, and the pictures I took just don't do it justice. Sorry about the glare, but without the flash the picture was hazy and grainy. In regular light, the colours are richer and more vibrant. I used images from the movie and other sources to construct his body, and used the new coloured pencils I got for christmas for the colouring.
The first picture is a bit hazy because I didn't use the flash, but I wanted you to see the face more clearly.

Dorothy and the Lion

Completed quite recently, this was done in pen and is a copy of an illustration of Dorothy and the Cowardly Lion by John R. Neil. I'm very proud of its outcome and consider it one of my best (out of the few that I've done).
This will be the second peice I've done in pen, both being related to The Wizard of Oz. You can see the previouse on another page of this blog to compare my progress in using pen as a media.

Six Jackles

A simple project for school I did after I finished all my work. I used some stirofoam, and made a stamp in the shape of a jackle. I then dipped it in some black pain (the art program at my school doesn't supply ink) and pressed it to the paper. Afterwards, I coloured the insides with different designs using pencil crayons. My favorites are the first, third and fourth.

Cartooning Around 2: Stitch

Just a little doodle with some pencil crayon colour. Stitch is quite cute, and I was in the mood for some cartoons :) If you look closer I drew him hanging off the page :)

Cartooning Around 1: Tarzan

Yet more catooning around. This picture required an annoying amount of effort and patience for such a simple drawing. For me, the anatomy was really complex (obviously I don't draw people enough). The challenge was the face, though. I must have erased and restarted it about seven different times. I hope the effort was worth the outcome :)

The Beast

More cartooning around. This time, I put more effort in the raw body structure and fabric lines, and left it without colour. I prefer drawing without colour because I find it too complicated to apply more to a peice when you're already satisfied with the current outcome.
This may be my favorite thing I've ever draw :) I put alot of effort into it and I think it turned out great.
I based it off of a variety of miniscule images I found in a Disney story book from when I was small, stuffed away at the back of my bookshelf.
Also, a new version of this movie -"Beastly"- has come to theatres so I thought it would be appropriate to upload this picture.

Kenai and Koda

Recently, I've started cartooning around- drawing and doodling various Disney and non-Disney characters. An earlier example of one I did at home in pencil is this picture of Kenai and Koda from the movie "Brother Bear".
The larger bear's eyes are kind of messed up. Overall, it's not my best project, and I could have done a better job, but it was good to use my pencils again and in a different way.
I enjoyed blending the pencil colours to make variouse shades of brown and it was sort of fun drawing the smaller bear's over exagerated expression :)

Self Portrait in Yellows, Blues, and Purples

A self portrait I completed last year in my art class. Unfortunately, the picture was taken from an angle, so the features are a bit warped.
I wanted to use some impressionist stylings, so I painted myself with yellows, blues and greens instead of my natural skin tones. My favorite features are the diamond patterns on the shirt, the colour rainbow on my neck, and the cool background.

Eragon Dragon

There's a series of books called "The Inheritence" series that I very much enjoyed reading. It's about a young man named Eragon who becomes a dragon rider. The author hasn't written the last installment of the series for over three years, so I've given up all hopes of knowing what happens in the end. But during my "Eragon" phase, I thought it would be cool to have my own dragon. So here he is. I referenced the cover of the first book so I could get the illustraion style right, but I changed some facial features and the colour. The dragon is in pencil, but the gackground in water colour (not my best media). I forgot to paint the areas under the easle clasps, and never got around to filling them in.

Detail: Animagi of Harry Potter

Another older project. I did this one at home, so naturally the quality is lesser then that when I'm with my art teacher, because she helps me and gives me great advice. Anyway, so this is a deatil image from a peice I did featuring the four main animagi from Harry Potter (Mooney, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs).
I'm not very pleased with the outcome of this project, but I thought I should upload it anyway.

Leopard Resting

Here's another painting that was done some time ago. I referenced Robert Bateman's work to paint the leopard, but I put him in a different position along with a new background. This was the first painting with which I used pre-made acrylic colours instead of the basic five (yellow, red, blue, black and white). The rocks were painted using a palet knife, so they have a stoney texture. I also love this painting because I like drawing and painting animals, and because I like the way the sky turned out, especially the clouds.

The Red Vinyard

It's been a long time since I've uploaded new pictures. This blog is a sort of 'diary' of my progress, but I've neglected it for over a year. Over the time of my neglection to this blog, I've completed a number of art projects that I worked on both at home and at my art teacher's studio. This was done a few years ago, but it is one of my favorite peices I've done so far. I love it for its vibrant colours and texture.
It is a copy of Vangoh's "Red Vinyard". You can compare this to an image of the original on google if you want. it was the first time I used a palet knife for a project, and it is now one of my favorite painting styles.
I was still using only the five base colours for my paintings at this ponit (yellow, red, blue, white and black) so the colours varry in vibrancy from the original, but for that I love it all the more :)
